The Texas Panhandle Audubon Society (TxPAS) was founded in 1952 by a small band of conservationists, some of whom continue to participate and provide historical knowledge to the group. The TxPAS engages in

in support of the natural environment and serves the 26-county Panhandle area.
 The
Horned Lark's Prairie, the organization’s newsletter, was so named to emphasize the connection between birds and their prairie homes. This link is important when many of the short-grass prairie birds are suffering serious population declines.
Since its founding, the TxPAS has focused on environmental education and outreach through its newsletter and presentations to its members, schools, and other community groups. The TxPAS conducts regional Christmas Bird Counts – which date back to the 1950’s – and other surveys which provide an important data source about area birds.
The TxPAS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
